Gas in the laser cutting machine

We use assisted gas in the laser cutting machine. The gas can ejected the liquid metal that been melt by the laser machine; can have exothermic chemical reaction with melt metal; can blow the dust away and cool down the focus lens. Therefore, how many types of gas do we use while laser cutting?

The laser gas basically contains air, oxygen, nitrogen, helium and carbon dioxide.

1.Air. Air is much more affordable than other gas and contains 20% of oxygen. However, the cutting efficient is not that good as pure oxygen. The cutting effect is similar to nitrogen that have dark yellow section. Air is mainly use for aluminum alloys, aluminum, copper, stainless steel and electrolytic steel.

2.Oxygen. Oxygen is use for combustion supporting that can speed up the operation speed. It is mainly use for carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminum alloys. The section of the oxygen cutting can be black or dark yellow.

3.Nitrogen. Nitrogen can prevent the form of the oxidation film caused by oxygen, and forming oxidation free cutting. The surface of the oxidation free cutting metal can be weld and spray. The section is normally white. It is suitable for stainless steel, electrolytic steel, copper and aluminum alloys.
4.Helium and carbon dioxide. These two laser gas is mainly use in the laser machine with the laser, not like the other gas is mainly use for laser cutting.

Different gas have different cutting results. You can chose the gas according to the product result that you want.
